Let's talk about DISSECT!

Prof. Jean Calleja-Agius is a leading Maltese obstetrician, gynaecologist, and professor in the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Malta.

With a career dedicated to advancing women's health and reproductive medicine, she brings an extraordinary depth of clinical and academic expertise to the field.

Prof. Calleja-Agius graduated as a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Malta in 1999. She later earned a PhD from University College London (UCL), specializing in early pregnancy complications and recurrent miscarriages, alongside an MSc with Distinction in Clinical Embryology from the University of Leeds. She is a recognized Fellow of both the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG) in London and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI).

Beyond her extensive clinical work in obstetrics and gynaecology, she is an internationally recognized research leader. Prof.

Calleja-Agius chaired the GYNOCARE COST Action, a major European-led initiative uniting researchers worldwide to fight rare gynaecological cancers. An author of numerous peer-reviewed studies and a passionate advocate for public health, she continuously bridges the gap between laboratory science and bedside patient care to improve healthcare outcomes for women globally.

The DISSECT COST Action is privileged to have Prof. Jean Calleja-Agius as the Working Group 1 Lead, not only because of her rich professional expertise and scientific achievements, but also because of her exceptionally kind personality. Together with Dr. Pallvi Kaul, she leads the group dedicated to the Identification & Evaluation of Disparities in Surgical Specialization and Education in Cancer Training.
